Burano, Murano, & Torcello Islands, Venice, Italy.

One of Jack’s Must-See places to see.

Earnest Hemingway lived in many foreign cities in his lifetime, including Paris, France, Key West, Florida, Havana, Cuba and on the island of Torcello, Venice, Italy.
Duck-shooting parties, drunken evenings at Harry’s Bar (near St. Marks Square off of the Grand Canal) with eccentric aristocrats, and even lunches and dinners in local places that just served wine and simple food—it was all good fun, but it was getting in the way of his writing when living in Venice.
So, Hemingway moved to the remote, rustic island of Torcello. He enjoyed jetting across the lagoon in boats from this tiny island. Hemingway wrote the novel, Across the River and into the Trees quietly on Torcello, in 1950.
