Garden Model Railway – “Romantic Road.”

WDW, EPCOT Theme Park.

This outdoor garden model railway is based on the 261 mile “Romantic Road” from the central German city of Würzburg to the town of Füssen in southern Germany at the Austrian Alps through the states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.

Romantic Road (Deutschland’s Romantische Straße) can be defined as: charming, attractive, nice, eye-catching.

A panoramic view of model railway at the EPCOT German Pavilion in Walt Disney World, Florida.

The layout was created in 1995 for the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival to represent the culture of Germany’s oldest holiday route. This route includes nature, art, culture, culinary traditions and the hospitality of the “Romantic Road.”

This 1:22.5 scale garden model railway has detailed Bavarian Villages with European Piko buildings. Scale figures and animals, “real live” miniature trees, well maintained by the Disney Horticulturists, the Main River and rock work representing Austrian mountains. The layout has been built with standard section track. The layout is located at the German Pavilion in the EPCOT Theme Park World Showcase in Walt Disney World, Florida. I took these pictures in January, 2021, to created the following rough schematic drawing by looking at the pictures. The drawing is shown from the side seen by visitors. I stayed double masked during my visit to EPCOT during the Covid epidemic.

I created the below video of this layout on my Android phone. https://youtu.be/2MTESCD2c1k Filming was done on two different days, the reason for the different consists and engines. Look closely and you’ll see a couple small Brown Anole lizards scampering over buildings. No lizard was hurt during my filming!

In 2014 Jack drove the actual length of the Romatic Road. Click the below link to view actual photos of these towns.
